Commenting and mentioning people¶
Every task has a Comments thread for the running discussion about it — decisions, questions, status notes. Comments are permanent, stamped with who wrote them and when, so the history of a task stays with the task instead of scattering across chats.
Add a comment¶
- Open the task in the detail panel (click its row in the list, or its node on the canvas).
- Scroll to Comments at the bottom of the panel.
- Type in the box and click Comment — or press Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac).
The thread reads top to bottom, oldest first, and the box to write in sits below it. Your comment appears at the bottom of the thread, with your name, colour, and a timestamp. Anyone else looking at the same task sees it appear live, without refreshing.
Edit or delete your own comment¶
Under each of your comments you'll see Edit and Delete. Editing marks the comment "edited" so the change is visible; deleting removes it for good. You can only edit or delete comments you wrote.
Mention a collaborator with @¶
To pull someone into the conversation, @-mention them:
- In the comment box, type
@followed by the start of their name. - Pick the person from the list that pops up (arrow keys then Enter, or click).
- Their name turns into a highlighted mention in your comment.
You can only mention members of the task's project — the suggestion list is exactly those people.
What the mentioned person sees¶
When you mention someone, they get a notification:
- A bell in the sidebar shows a red unread count.
- Opening it lists who mentioned you, on which task, with a preview of the comment.
- Clicking a notification takes you straight to that task — switching to the right project automatically if the mention is in a different one — and marks it read.
- Use Mark all read to clear the lot.
Notifications reach you live and everywhere — even while you're working in a different project — and stay in sync if you have TaskTree open in more than one tab. Mentioning yourself never sends a notification.
