Keyboard shortcuts¶
TaskTree has a small set of keyboard shortcuts. Press S anywhere in the app to pop up this list without leaving what you're doing.
Single-key shortcuts only fire when you're not typing in a text box, so they never get in the way of editing a title or description.
Everywhere¶
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
S |
Show this keyboard-shortcuts list |
N |
New task |
/ |
Jump to the filter (list) or Highlight dropdown (canvas) |
Ctrl + K |
Jump to the task search box |
Ctrl + Z |
Undo your last change |
Enter |
Edit the open task — your cursor jumps to its Title field |
Ctrl + Enter |
Save your edits and go back to navigating — the panel stays open and the task stays selected |
Esc |
Close the open panel, dialog, or menu |
Ctrl + Enter also creates the task when you're in the New task form — from any field in it, including the Description box, so you never have to reach for the mouse to finish. Both places say so on screen, next to the button they stand in for.
On a Mac, use Cmd in place of Ctrl (search, undo, save-and-return).
Undo works across the whole project and is saved on the server — so it reliably steps back through recent edits, not just the last toast. There is no redo here.
On the Team Calendar¶
The Team Calendar has its own undo, because changes there aren't recorded on the server the way task changes are.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl + Z |
Take back your last change to your own entries |
Ctrl + Shift + Z |
Put that change back again |
It behaves differently from the project undo above in two ways worth knowing: it lasts only as long as the tab (reload and it's gone), and it is the one place in TaskTree with a redo. See Share your availability for the details.
On the canvas¶
These work when you have a task selected:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
↑ ↓ ← → |
Move the selection to the nearest task in that direction |
Delete |
Delete the selected task |
Esc |
Deselect |
Deleting is blocked if the task still has children or other tasks depending on it — you'll see a message explaining what's in the way. After a successful delete, the toast offers Ctrl+Z to bring the task back.
These mouse gestures work anywhere on the canvas — no selection needed:
| Gesture | Action |
|---|---|
Shift + drag |
Select a group of tasks — drag a box over empty canvas |
| Drag empty space | Pan around the canvas (or hold Space and drag) |
| Scroll | Zoom in and out around your cursor |
Reporting a bug¶
Found something wrong? The Report a bug button at the bottom of the sidebar (just below Keyboard shortcuts) opens a pre-filled bug-report form in a new tab. Describe what happened and what you expected, and submit — it goes straight to the team.
