Use the canvas

The canvas shows your tasks as a tree you can pan around, zoom into, and rearrange. It's the same task data as the list — just laid out spatially.

Move around

  • Pan — drag any empty part of the canvas.
  • Zoom — scroll up to zoom in, down to zoom out.
  • Fit to view — click Fit to view (bottom-right controls) to frame all the top-level tasks at once. Handy when you've panned off into the distance.

Open and edit a task

  • Single-click a task to open its detail panel.
  • Double-click a task to collapse or expand its branch (see below).

When you've edited a task, clicking anywhere outside the panel saves your changes and closes it — you don't need to press Save first. If someone else changed the same task while you were editing, a dialog asks whether to overwrite their change or discard yours. To leave without saving, press Esc or use the Discard button. (If a change can't be saved yet — for example the title is empty, or the start date is after the due date — clicking away won't lose your edit; the Save button flashes so you can fix it.)

Collapse and expand branches

To hide a task's children, double-click the task. A small + badge appears at its corner to show the branch is collapsed and there's more underneath. Double-click again to expand it.

Collapsing is just a canvas view setting — it doesn't change the task or affect the list view, and it's remembered per task.

Arrange tasks

You can position tasks two ways:

  • By hand — drag any task to move it. Its position is saved, so it stays put when you come back.
  • Automatically — click Auto-arrange to lay the whole tree out tidily. Because this overwrites every task's saved position, you'll get a confirmation prompt first: "Auto-arrange will overwrite every task's saved position. Continue?" If you don't like the result, the Undo button on the toast puts everything back.

Show dependencies

Dependency arrows are normally shown only for the task you're hovering. Click Show all dependencies to reveal every dependency arrow at once; the button turns amber while it's on. Click it again (Hide dependencies) to go back to hover-only.

To draw or remove dependencies, see Drawing dependencies and re-parenting.

Highlight one person's work

Use the Highlight dropdown (bottom-right) to pick a person — or Me. Their tasks get a coloured ring; everything else dims. This is a highlight, not a filter: nothing is hidden, so you keep the whole tree in view. Set it back to none to clear.

Keyboard shortcuts on the canvas

With a task selected:

Key Action
↑ Select the parent
↓ Select the first child
← / → Select the previous / next sibling
Delete Delete the selected task
Esc Deselect
N New task (at the centre of the view)
/ Jump to the Highlight dropdown

The full list is on the Keyboard shortcuts page, or press S anywhere in the app to see it.
